3 Helpful Reminders for Your Donors (2/1/07)

In working with donors who give special annual gifts, it is extremely important that you provide them with 3 helpful reminders.

It is not unusual for donors to forget what they gave last year and what they have given the current year. The danger you face is that without these 3 helpful reminders, they might give a much smaller gift simply because of a lack of information.

I make it a practice to provide these 3 helpful reminders as I challenge people to give annual gifts:

1. Here is what you did last year


2. Here is what you have done so far this current year


3. This is what I would like to have you give this year

I saw this played out over dinner one evening with a couple who contributed to our Inner City Impact ministry.

During the course of the evening the wife asked how much they had given so far in that current year. I had done my homework prior to our dinner and was able to readily provide the information. It was considerably lower that the previous year.

Right then and there she voiced her concern to her husband and by the end of the evening, I was able to elevate their giving.

Without these 3 helpful reminders I could easily have found myself extremely disappointed in their giving, all because I failed to be prepared with this important information.
