There are times when we concern ourselves with the latest and greatest in fund raising, and fail to focus on these 4 keys.
1. Adding Prospects
You always need to be looking for new prospects. In fund raising it is a never ending task.
If you are going to expand your vision you will need more people on your team.
If you lose donors, you will need new prospects to replace them.
You need to be proactive in constantly looking for prospects.
2. Call for Appointments
You need to be in front of prospects and donors. That all begins by actively booking appointments.
If you are not calling for appointments, you are not moving your fund raising forward.
Keep in mind: no appointments mean no opportunities to visit and make your case for funds.
3. Visit and Ask
I have a saying in People Raising: “VISIBILITY = OPPORTUNITY.”
You need to be in front of people.
Years ago a board member at my Inner City Impact ministry said this: “We need to get Bill Dillon out of his office and in front of people.”
That applies to you and your fund raising.
Go prepared and practice, practice, practice your presentation
4. Follow Up
In the fund raising world there are 3 things to remember.
Follow up, follow up, follow up.
Follow up your phone calls.
Follow up your visits.
Follow up your donations.
The list can go on.
I cannot tell you the number of times I have seen gifts come in because I constantly followed up.
In fund raising follow up is not an option. You will never realize your fund raising potential unless you follow up.
